Dear Friends: The always entertaining and informative Silvio Canto Jr., and I will be looking back at President Trump’s first 100 days in office this week. Please tune in 10 AM PST/ 12 noon CT/ 1 pm EST this Wednesday, April 26th for another great Canto Talk show (or download the archived podcast after).
Our guest will be the most glamorous of President Trump’s supporters: Terry Lee Ebert Mendozza, who is a founding member of The Trumpettes! Readers will recall she was featured during our previous show that focused on President Trump’s Inauguration!
To say the President Trump has been busy these past 100 days would be an understatement of galactic proportions. It will be hard to list all the Obama-repealing, economy-enhancing, America-embracing improvements that our Commander-in-Chief has accomplished in this short span of time.
When I asked Terry what her favorite moment during these 100 days has been, my fellow Eguptophile mentioned President Trump’s negotiations with Egypt’s President Sisi to release an Egyptian-American languishing in jail during Obama’s tenure.
The Obama administration unsuccessfully pressed Sissi’s government for their release. It was not until Trump moved to reset U.S. relations with Egypt by embracing Sissi at the White House on April 3…that Egypt’s posture changed. Last Sunday, a court in Cairo dropped all charges against Hijazi and the others.
What the White House plans to celebrate as vindication of its early diplomacy comes at the end of a week in which the administration has combated charges of foreign policy confusion.
Silvo said the appointment of Judge Neal Gorsuch to the Supreme Court was his pick for best presidential act during the first 100! However, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell had a key, supporting role by detonating the nuclear option that allowed the confirmation to conclude successfully!
I have many favorite moments, so I will list three themes that I have especially enjoyed during this first phase of Trump’s presidency.
1) President Trump’s epic trolling of the press.
For example, he tweets that he has been “wiretapped” by the Obama Administration. The American press gets hysterical and accuses Trump of being a delusional, paranoid liar that has been a toll of Russia. Several weeks later, after a series of revelations about Trump campaign personnel being targeted by FISA warrants, there is now radio silence of the Trump’s supposed Russia ties.
The most delicious example of trolling this week: President Trump scheduling a massive rally in Pennsylvania while the elite media enjoy their White House Correspondents dinner without a single member of the current administration in attendance.
2) Trump’s targeting of Obama’s legacy projects with the precision of a drone and the power of a MOAB.
While I appreciate that Obamacare and taxes, to be done properly, will not be done with 100 days, it is apparent to be that part of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” plan is to rescind Obama’s legacy whenever and wherever he can.
The most recent example of Trump’s use of “pen and phone” on behalf of Americans is an executive order that undid Obama-era rules related to mining restrictions and land management.
One order Trump will sign this week will expand oil and gas drilling in U.S. waters off the nation’s coast, calling for a “review of the locations available for offshore oil and gas exploration and of certain regulations governing offshore oil and gas exploration.”
Another will order the Interior Department to review national monument designations as part of a broader effort to decrease the amount of land that has been designated as federal land. Once an area is deemed a national monument, it cannot be used for drilling and mining.
3) Trump has replaced Smart Power with Smart Deals (with a side of Kick Ass).
I predict that Obama’s foreign policy will become legendary…for its ineptness. President Trump probably has experience the most success in this area, because there was so much room for improvement.
Syria has been been put on notice, in terms of the likely consequences of continued use of chemical weapons. China is now buying American coal instead of North Korean. Information in now leaking infamous Iran deal, which was founded on lies and bribes.
Please tune in…it’s gonna be YUGE!
