Dear Readers: There is so much wonderful material to share with you all about the Sacramento 9-12 Tea Party Rally hosted by Tea Party Patriots: I need to write small snippets each day this week to get it all in. I wanted to thank NorCal Tea Party organizer Ginny Rapini and her excellent team of patriots, as I really was thrilled to receive their kind invitation to speak about my experiences with the Italian Tea Party movement. The event they set-up was superb.
One of the best experiences about this event was connecting with fellow San Diego blogger, W.C. Varones, at the airport — we were on the same flight up to Sacramento this Sunday. He was live-blogging the event: Sacramento Tea Party. We were also joined by his website partner, Jr. Deputy Accountant. As we sat together following the St. Louis and Washinton D.C. rallies via internet, I told Tea Party Patriots National Organizer Mark Mecker that we were “BLOGGER’S ROW.” He laughed, but I was delighted to be part of my first “blogger’s row” at such a great citizen-oriented event.
The Sacramento Bee reports that 5,000 people attended the event (hat-tip, Papertiger). Sadly, my speech came at the end of a hot day on the asphalt at McClellan Park, so only about 200 or so hardy souls lasted to hear my experiences with the Tea Party Italia. I hope my dear readers kindly share W.C. Varone’s YouTube video above, as there was a lot of good information about a group of really great people.
Another major highlight was I got to meet one of the most influential people in my life: Tammy Bruce. Tammy was the essence of graciousness and kindness, and I appreciated her warmth and sincerity so much as we met. I have been listening to her since 1994, as best I could (when she went to AM 790, the reception was not great in San Diego, and I would have to hold my walkman radio at just the right angle to capture her golden punditry). Tammy Bruce is an independent conservative who was once a leftist activist and the President of NOW. After taking a radio gig on AM640, and becoming acquainted with conservatives during her work related to the OJ Simpson Trial as well as working with Dr. Laura Schlessinger, her political views evolved to a more conservative stance. She has a dynamic Internet Talk Show, and I listed to her podcasts daily as a Tammy Army Member (TAM). If you can spare $5/month and want a great program filled with fresh ideas, passion, and great information, check out her site: THE UNITED STATES OF TAMMY.
W.C. Varones snapped the only picture of this moment (in my fan-based brain-fog, I totally forgot I was holding a camera, so I could capture the moment myself). I like it though, because it shows us conferring about current events and the rally just prior to her exceptional and dynamic speech:
I am still searching for more videos about the event, which I will share when I get them — including one of Tammy’s speech. A point that Tammy made, based on her experiences as a leftist activist, is that our opponents want to get conservatives and free-market-minded people to doubt ourselves. Another point she made is that the American “Ruling Class” looks to tired European ideas for governance, which have obviously failed. My speech made a nice counter-point to hers, as we are showing that many European activists desire liberty and limited government and are now looking to the American Tea Party movement as a template.
Tammy was the key pundit, who turned my opinion on the Delaware Senate race from Castle to O’Donnell. I just finished discussing the race with my beloved, Horemheb, who is firmly on “Team Castle”. I must note, it is possible for 2 active patriots to disagree on this race and NOT be insulting. Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey notes something similar occurred between he and one of his blogging friends, Dr. Zero: This doesn’t mean that people can come to other honest and well-meaning conclusions about the candidates, the strategic implications, and the priority of sending a message.
No matter who wins the race today, we STILL plan on being married tomorrow — and donating to the winner. 🙂
