UPDATE: Beers with Demo has a video of the “Gift of the Year” — The Manslater. If you need a good chuckle to diminish holiday stress, check in with BwD! Now, if we could come up with the “Lib-slater”, then that would truly be a gift for Tea Party types! It may be a good way to thank us for THIS!
Dear Friends: Before heading off for more profit center work today, I wanted to take a few moments and share some links and news. If, like me, you are scrambling for gift ideas…here’s a few from the SLOBs that may be good for your favorite Tea Partier!
Nothing says peaceful protest like a clean set of underwear — emblazoned with the 4th amendment, visible when going through the “naked machine”.
I have been asking the SLOBs for their picks, in terms of holiday music and movies. For me, Pink Martini’s Joy to the World album has been this year’s Christmas music highlight — and they have the most outstanding rendition of “We Three Kings” that I have heard:
Sarah likes these songs:
“God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” by the Barenaked Ladies & Sarah McLauchlan
“2000 Miles” by the Pretenders
“Carol of the Bells” by Los Lonely Boys
Always edgy, W.C. Varones likes the Pogues’ Fairy Tale of New York. I will have more SLOB holiday picks as they come in through the Christmas week.
And, if your favorite Tea Partier is like me….coffee is the fuel of our agitation. Get ye over to The Anchoress, and click on the “Mystic Monk” link! That is the best coffee I have had, and makes for an outstanding gift!
In terms of holiday films — I never thought anything could replace the original “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” However, last year, I watched “A Christmas Story” for the first time. It is my new favorite, and the first one I watched this year — it is the perfect blend of CAPITALISM and sentiment!
Interestingly, the Young Prince wondered if he was old enough for a BB gun this year! Our Sarah writes: As for favorite Christmas movie, I have to choose a film of my favorite ballet, the Maurice Sendak inspired Nutcracker by the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Allows me to enjoy my two great loves, dance and American illustration.
It looks outstanding — I will have to get that for my X-mas movie collection. Continuing his holiday edginess, WC’s selection is Bad Santa.
Left Coat Rebel, Tim Daniels, takes a look at movies, too. However, it is a compare-and-contrast of Gov. Schwarzenegger: His movie image vs his weak-kneed response to progressive legislators that have doomed the Golden State. In related news, you can read Lorraine’s story of a Californian who got Scrooged by the state. It’s going to be a wild 2011 on the Left Coast — which is why Tim and I are vying to beat eachother to the right.
From The Liberator Today…have a Happy Bill of Rights Day….or not. TLT’s piece is essential reading, especially before the cram-and-jam congressional fracas that Reid and Company have planned for this holiday weekend, with an extra bonus package from the FCC and reparations/earmarks to boot. And you thought he didn’t care. Well he does, at it seems to be a gift to Obama.
Finally, if you are really stuck for a gift idea, nothing says “I Love You” to a Tea Partier more than a quality bumper sticker:
Though T-shirts are nice, too.
Excellent Christmas suggestions, Goddess!
I love the metallic ink shirts!
Except I would not make the text or image visible to the naked eye by having one layer of metallic under a layer on top with a different design.
Oh the possibilities!
I love your idea Charles!
I really like O Come, O Come, Emmanuel by Margaret Becker,
Good King Wenceslas by the Irish Rovers and although Mannheim Steamroller does a great version, I prefer a traditional rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentelemen.
Thanks for the link, Leslie!
Bruce doing “Santa Claus is coming to town”…
… and Elton John performing “Step into Christmas” always puts me in the Christmas spirit.
