Dear Friends: Normally, I do not watch MSNBC. And, when my beloved husband decides I need to, so that I may hear “the other side”, I generally avoid Keith Olbermann’s show with the same intensity that a vampire does a crucifix. However, I must comment on the following item — a video in which Olbermann convincingly details tax payment failures from self-proclaimed “Tea Party Leader”, Michael Patrick Leahy.
I hope for Michael Patrick Leahy’s sake, the charges made are untrue. It is not as if Olbermann has a history of reason when it comes to the socially or financially conservative among us. Therefore, I will await Leahy’s clarifications and explanations before commenting farther on the potential ramifications. Should they be true, we will be treated to the usual cries of hypocrisy while the left engages fully in Saul Alinksy Rule for Radicals #7 — ridicule is a man’s most potent weapon. Too bad if Leahy supplied them with the armaments.
As a founder of a leading California grassroots taxpayer advocacy group — the Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition, LLC — I would formally like to state that we and our umbrella organization, TeaPartyPatriots.org, had distanced ourselves from Leahy. In part, this distancing is a result of Leahy’s excited offer to meet with President Obama after the President publicly mocked the Tea Party movement during the Tax Day events. Leahy deemed himself as part of “Tea Party Leadership” then, which was not well received by grassrooters like myself who truly lead local events. Leahy also had demonstrable problems in being an actual leader, which lead to an organizational split that generated the Tea Party Patriots group.
Therefore, if these sad charges prove true, Olbermann should not get overly thrilled. Tea Party agitators are not packing up our signs, removing our tea shirts, or going back to apathy. Even if Leahy is flawed, the ideals of free market enterprise, personal responsibility, and liberty express through the Tea Parties is not. Have a good night, Keith!
