Dear Readers:  This caught my ear today, and I have been playing this in my head all day.

Reminsce reminsce reminsce reminsce
Soniye dil nai lagda tere bina, dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you
Soniya dil nai lagda tere bina dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you

Ro ro ke din langde ne, raatan nu ginye taare
I spend my days crying, at night i count the stars
Dil taare hoke parda, dis de na sajan pyare
My heart sighz, i cant see my beloved
Aave teri yaad pal pal baad, kaliyan ni kat diyan raatan
I remember you after every moment, nights dont pass alone

Main vee char khote sajana, taare hai gin di raindi,
Darling I also go on the roof at night and count the stars
taang bas rahe milan di, Naini na neendar paindi
I long to meet you, sleep doesn’t enter my eyes
Teri meri saanj, tere haar baat, kat diyan din ro ro sajana
Smthing about spending days crying

Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaton nu
My eyes wait for our meeting…
Thars gaye kan soniye mithiyan baatan nu
My ears long for your sweet talks
Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaatan nu,
My eyes wait for our meeting
Thars gaye kan soniye, mithiyan baatan un
My ears long for your sweet talks
Soniye dil nai lagda tere bina dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you
Soniya dil nai lagda tere bina dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you

Huun tha pachtonde paye ya, ishqe da naag ched ke
Now I regret arousing the snake of love
Kale bas gaunde paye ya, birhon da raag dhed ke
I sing alone…smthin smthin lol
Aunde ne khayal, kade si tu naal, pulda ni sanu tera pyaar
I think about how once you were with me, I cant forget your love
Sati sat paal ki dasan, dil de vich sochan lakhan
What can I say, I think of many things in my heart
Har dam thakdiyan rehndiyan, raanva eh meriyan ankhan
My eyes spend every moment looking at the road (like waiting for him to come back)
Aave na nazar na koi khabar, pulda nai sanu tera pyar
I cant see you, and don’t hear anything from you… I can’t forget your love

Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaatan nu
My eyes are waiting for our meeting
Thars gaye kan soniye mithiyan baatan nu
My ears long for your sweet talks
Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaatan nu
My eyes are waiting for us to meet
Thars gaye kan soniya mithiyan baatan nu
My ears long for your sweet talks
Soniye dil nai lagda tere bina, dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you
Soniya dil nai lagda tere bina dil nai lagda tere bina
My heart is restless without you
Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaatan nu
My eyes wait for our meeting
Thars gaye kan soniye mithiyan baatan nu
My ears long for your sweet talks
Nain ne karan udeekan mulaqaatan nu
My eyes wait for our meeting
Thars gaye kan soniya mithiyan baatan nu
My ears long for your sweet talks
Soniye dil nai lagda tere bina, dil nai lagda tere bina

Dear Readers: I love this haunting song of love and longing so much that I thought it would be a great way to kick off the month that features Valentine’s Day! Enjoy!

kyun
na bole mose mohan kyun
hain roothe roothe mohan kyun
kaise manaun haye
kaise manaun..

why
why doesn’t my beloved (like Lord Krishna) speak to me,
why is my beloved angry with me,
how do I console him..
how do I..

un bin kate na raina
un bin aave na ik pal chaina
un bin jiyoon to kaise main jiyoon haye
bahe naina bhare more naina jhare more naina
mue naina sune nahi kehna bhare more naina

without him my nights don’t pass
without him there is no peace for a moment
without him how do I live..
my eyes flow, my eyes are filled (with tears), my eyes pour,
these damned eyes don’t listen to me and get filled (with tears)..

nainam chhindanti shastrani
nainam dahati pavakah
na chainam kledayantapo
na shoshayati marutah

Weapon cannot harm the soul,
fire cannot burn it,
water cannot wet the soul
and the wind cannot make it dry..

naino ke dwaare aane ke vaade
baandhe aise bolo kaahe
chaukhat pe dil ki, aahat rakhi hai
taakon pe hai tore saaye

the promises to come at the door of eyes,
why did you make? (i.e. why did u say u’d come?)
on the door of heart, the sound of your footsteps is there,
and on the shelves (of heart) there are your images..

un bin unhe manaye
un bin kabhi jo unko rijhaye
un bin chhale hai mora ye jiya haye..

(even) without him it placates him,
(even) without him it tries to cajole him,
without him my heart cheats me..

bahe naina bhare more naina jhare more naina
mue naina sune nahi kehna bhare more naina

komal badi hai saansan ki dori
roothan se bhi toot jaaye
baavan tarah se jee ko manaya
khoje ajahun tori raahein

the string of breaths (i.e. life) is too delicate,
it breaks even if someone gets angry,
I consoled my heart in fifty two ways (i.e., in many ways)
but today it searches for your footsteps only..

un bin unhe main paaun
un bin unhe main garva lagaun
un bin unhi mein more jee lage

(even) without him, I reach him,
(even) without him, I hug him,
(even) wihtout he being here, my heart is in him only..

bahe naina bhare more naina jhare more naina
mue naina sune nahi kehna bhare more naina

Dear Readers: A ton of great news coming out today, in terms of polling that shows Team Romney is poised to win. Two words for you:

MASSIVE. LANDSLIDE.

So, courtesy of Tammy Bruce, with that in mind, here is my music mix to celebrate:

Hello again it’s me
Your shoulder’s where I sit
The half, nobody sees
Of a silent partnership
I am here your help at hand

I’m never far away
The clear view from where I stand
I’ll be there if you need me
I am your helping hand
My words, you’ve heard them all before
It’s only for the sake of love

It’s gonna be a new day for you
A new day for you
The stars have played their part
The past is gone and done
I have more faith in love
Best is yet to come

So what if this I here
You deserve a break
Take time to think it out
Don’t make a new mistake
( From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/b/basia-lyrics/new-day-for-you-lyrics.html )
I am here your help at hand

It’s gonna be a new day for you
A new day for you, a new day for you, a new day for you
The stars have played their part
The past is gone and done
I have more faith in love
Best is yet to come

My words you’ve heard them all before
It’s only for the sake of love
The stars have played their part
The past is gone and done
I have more faith in love
The best is

It’s gonna be a new day for you
A new day for you, a new day for you, a new day for you
It’s gonna be a new day for you
A new day for you, a new day for you, a new day for you

Dear Readers: Many of you know that I have been recovering from hip-replacement surgery, which I needed after a freak accident in late March. I wanted to feature a wonderful Bollywood song in celebration of what is now pretty much a full recovery, thanks to a wonderful Zumba/Dance program offered by Kavita Sheth.

The translation:

haan Hai Koi to wajah
yes, there must be some reason
To jeena ka maza yun aane laga
because of which life suddenly became fun

Yeh hawaon mein hai kya
what is this in the air
Thoda sa jo naasha yun chane laga
which caused this intoxication
Pucho na pucha mujhe kya
go ahead ask me
Hua hai teri raahon mein aakar Pucho na pucha na
what happened to me when I met you?
Pucho na pucha mujhe kya
go ahead ask me
Milega teri bahon mein aakar
what will I find in your arms?

Yeh Ishq Haaye Baithe bithaye
this love, just like that
Jannat dikhaye haan
showed me heaven, oh yes
O raama
o God
Yeh Ishq Haaye Baithe bithaye
Jannat dikhaye haan

Todi mene sare hi bandhan zamane Tere
I have broken all constraints of the world
Todongi na mein vada
but I will not break promise [to you]
Aadha hissa mere to dil ki kahani ka tu
half of my heart’s story is you
Piya Mein baaki aadha
my beloved, I am another half

Dekho na dekho mujhe hua hai
look what has happened to me
Teri yaadhon mein kho kar
in your memories

Pucho na pucha mujhe kya
go ahead ask me
Milega teri baton mein jeekar
what will I get living in your memories

Yeh Ishq Haaye Baithe bithaye
Jannat dikhaye haan
O raama
Yeh Ishq Haaye Baithe bithaye
Jannat dikhaye haan

Mere jaise lakho mile honge
Tujhko piya
you, my darling, must have found thousands like me
Mujhe to mila tuu hi
yet you are the only one for me

Tu hi mere hooton ki khilti hui se hasi
you are smile on my lips
Gila bhi piya tu hi
and you are my complain too

Dekho na dekho mujhe kya hua hai
look what happened to me
Tujhe sapno mein lakar dekho na dekho
by bringing you in my dreams

After nearly one month of Zumba/Bollywood and a side of Middle Eastern Dance, I am able to move completely normally as I did before the accident. I feel about 10 years younger, and have tons more energy than before I began Kavita’s program. In fact, I was able to do a demonstration of Zumba at the local Tierrasanta Octoberfest last weekend.

Kavita’s class, featuring dance, stretch, and aerobic-oriented moves done to a novel mix of world music styles is being offered at 9:30 am, Mondays and Wednesdays at the Tierrsanata Recreation Center, as well as and 6 pm on Wednesdays. More classes are offered at other times and locations, so please contact her for more details: 858-609-9833 or email at masaladance at gmail.com

The music is from one of the most popular of all Bollywood movies, Jab We Met, which won some major international awards.

The film tells the story of a feisty Punjabi girl who is sent off track when she bumps into a depressed Mumbai businessman on an overnight sleeper to Delhi. While attempting to get him back on board when he alights at a station stop, both are left stranded in the middle of nowhere. Having walked out of his pressurised corporate business after being dumped by his girlfriend, the man has no destination in mind, until the girl forces him to accompany her back home and then on to elope with her secret boyfriend…{but ends up with the businessman instead}.

I’M YOUR VENUS!

Dear Readers: I was at the Ascension Parish Fiesta last night, and this song was being played by my favorite band Rockola. It hasn’t left my head since that time! I thought it would be good to shake up my music mix pics with an homage to the ’80’s.

!

I look forward to sharing another thrilling week of adventures with you

Dear Readers: I am stepping away from my World Music collection to dive into my vast array of ’80’s tunes – as this time period represents my formative years. And today’s feature highlights what I truly believe about the real state of the campaign: Anyone who thinks Obama is NOT going to lose by a landslide is whistling past the graveyard!

Oingo Boingo, “Dead Man’s Party”.

Yes, Harry Reid shows that the chorus of “leave your body and soul” at the door will apply directly to Obama voters in 2012.

I am a Democrat. Not one of of my Democrat friends, who are a typical mix of such voters, is enamored of either Obama or his attitude. They will respond by either not voting, or voting Romney. Those who do vote for Obama are one-issue voters (hint, the one issue has nothing to do with economics). They will not donate to his campaign. They will not work for Obama’s re-election.

That is the exact opposite of my citizen activist friends. Tea Party victor Ted Cruz puts it best: “Well, but the grassroots are energized,” Cruz responded. “Because, I think the absolute highest priority in the country in November is to defeat Barack Obama. And I’ve spoken with literally thousands and thousands of tea party activists, I have yet to meet a single tea party leader that is not gonna vote for Mitt Romney and work hard for him.”

So, anyone who believes the ginned-up polls palmed-off by the elite media as real news, comforting themselves that Obama will be re-elected is truly whistling past the graveyard. Between the enormous success of the Chick-fil-A “Freedom of Speech” event, the fact Team Romney has gotten inside Team Obama’s head, and the number of citizen activists willing to crawl over acid-coated, flaming shards of glass coated in cyanide to get to the REAL POLLS to remove Obama from office, I agree with a well known Las Vegas oddsmaker: Obama is going down to a landslide defeat.

It seems that Obama has developed a “disdain” for Romney. That is because Romney is absolutely unlike any other political candidate Obama has ever known: squeaky clean, handsome, and wanting to win. Here is a look inside Obama’s head:

For President Barack Obama, it’s now personal.

A new book cites Obama aides saying that the president has a “genuine disdain” for Mitt Romney.

“One factor made the 2012 grind bearable and at times even fun for Obama: he began campaign preparations feeling neutral about Romney, but like the former governor’s GOP opponents in 2008 and 2012, he quickly developed a genuine disdain for the man,” author Glenn Thrush writes in the soon-to-be released e-book “Obama’s Last Stand.”

I will offer that Obama will come off poorly in the upcoming debates, no matter how stacked in his favor the supposedly “fair” moderators are. Recall how Gore treated Bush in the 2000 debates — disdain never comes off well on national TV.

Remember: McCain actually won a 2008 debate, during the event moderated by a non-journalist — Rick Warren.

Romney’s going to do even better — and this will be visible by an electorate that will be highly engaged in October.

In the meantime, let’s show @RomneyResponse how independent conservatives can out-Alinksy our deluded opponents. MUT’s featured Hashtag of the week #LiberalT-Shirts

Our T-shirt guru, Charles Caesar, is going to like that one! In fact, he has a HOT new t-shirt design (click HERE to check it out).

And, the Goddess of Capitalism would be remiss if she didn’t end this post with her favorite Oingo Boingo song:

PS. A big Happy Birthday to my baby brother, the God of Chaos!

Dear Readers:  The MUT family is heading off to Las Vegas for my birthday, so I am taking a much needed vacay from the Shrine.  Therefore, I decided to make my Music Mix  feature “Poker Face”, by Lady Ga Ga (when she actually displayed some humor and originality, and before she decided to bash the usual cultural icons the entertainment glitterati regularly bash).

However, it seems that YouTube doesn’t have a version that’s playable, so check out vimeo:

The reason for this song? It is played in a scene of a movie both the Young Prince and I love — “Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief”.It’s when they hit the Lotus Casino in Vegas and forget their mission:

While digging around for appropriate linkage, I came across an update that makes the MUT family very happy: the movie, Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters looks like it is due out the summer of 2013. Basically, its a retelling of Jason and the Argonauts, as the son of Poseidon and his friends head into the Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece.

Unlike Percy and his friends, I have no intention of getting distracted from my missions:

1) Spreading the love for ancient Egypt.
2) Underscoring the value of capitalism.
3) Kicking some major posterior Nov. 6th!

See you toward the end of this week. Until then:

P.S. Extra Bonus: The new “Lost Hero” installment, “Mark of Athena” is out in October! This will be one book I won’t have to nag the Young Prince to read.

PPS: A big THANKS and electronic HUG to Captain Capitalism, who gave me the most awesome birthday greeting I could get this year.

Dear Readers:  Israel in the cross hairs, as my greatest fear for Egypt has been realized — the country has subsumed its ancient roots to toxic Saudi theocrats.  It seems the Muslim Brotherhood has won the “Presidential Election” and their President-Elect has set-out the next goal: Make Jerusalem the capital.

So, in honor of Israel, I thought I would share the songs that started my passion for World Music, which many of you have indicated is an enjoyable aspect of the Shrine.  First, I am featuring the Israeli singer Ofra Haza’s version of “Love Story” from the “Song of Songs“.  It is sung a capella in Hebrew, and is fresh and amazing to hear today as it was when sung 20 years ago):

A translation (MUT Note – the term “Pharaoh” is used, a hat-tip to the Egyptophiles in the audience):

UPDATE: Courtesy of a comment from Lee, here is the passage:

The part of Song of Songs that Ofra Haza sings is from Chapter 8 (for 8.6, click HERE):
Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.

And some background:

Set me as a seal upon thine heart – It was customary in the Levant and other places to make impressions of various kinds upon the arms, the breast, and other parts. I have seen these often: some slight punctures are made, and the place rubbed over with a sort of blue powder that, getting between the cuticle and cutis, is never discharged; it continues in all its distinctness throughout life. The figures of young women are frequently thus impressed on the arms and on the breasts. If the bride alludes to any thing of this kind, which is very probable, the interpretation is easy. Let me be thus depicted upon thine arm, which being constantly before thy eyes, thou wilt never forget me; and let me be thus depicted upon thy breast, the emblem of the share I have in thy heart and affections. Do this as a proof of the love I bear to thee, which is such as nothing but death can destroy; and do it to prevent any jealousy I might feel, which is as cruel as the grave, and as deadly as fiery arrows or poisoned darts shot into the body.

Haza was an Israeli singer of Yemenite Jewish origin, an actress and international recording star. I cannot stress how influential she was in initiating the “World Music” movement that many of us enjoy today! A review of her career is a must-read for any music aficionado — the Wiki entry provides an overview (another can be found HERE). A brief summary –

Inspired by a love of her Yemenite Jewish culture, the appeal of her musical art quickly spread to a wider Middle Eastern audience, somehow bridging the divide between Israel and the Arab countries. As her career progressed, Haza was able to switch between traditional and more commercial singing styles without jeopardizing her credibility. Her music fused elements of Eastern and Western instrumentation, orchestration and dance-beat. She became successful in Europe and the Americas; during her singing career, she earned many platinum and gold discs.

During the 80’s and 90’s she collaborated with many artists famous during this era — Thomas Dolby, Paula Abdul, Sarah Brightman, and Iggy Pop. Her work is featured on many soundtracks, several of which I own and highly recommend:

* Queen Margot
* Wild Orchid (the soundtrack is the ONLY thing to recommend this movie)
* The Prince of Egypt
* The Governess

Sadly, she died in 2000 at the age of 42 of complications due AIDS frm an apparent blood transfusion. However, courtesy of YouTube and modern technology, her influence lives on. I am sure you will be seeing more of her songs in future editions. However, in light of the events in Egypt, I would like to give everyone an idea of the “new world order” in that country, courtesy of the second featured song “Daw Da Hiya”:

The song tells the story of Daw Da Hiya who was the youngest daughter and fell in love. Tradition demanded that she must wait until all her sisters were married before she could marry but her love was so great that she married anyway and soon became pregnant. As a result she was brought before the religious courts to face the judges who pronounced that for her crime she must die.

UPDATE – a side of Egyptology news that is related to all the chaos described in the first paragraph: Seventy Egyptian artefacts found in illegal possession are authenticated

The archaeological committee of the central administration for confiscated antiquities, led by Youssef Khalifa, verified the authenticity of a collection of ancient Egyptian objects that were found in the possession of three people in Giza… Minister of State for Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim revealed on Monday that 70 out of the more than 110 objects found were authenticated, including:

  • A collection of 17 late pharaonic period amulets, depicting the lioness goddess of joy and blessings, Sekhmet; the god of the universe, Toth; goddess of magic and life, Isis; god of the afterlife, Osiris and the fertility goddess, Tawert
  • nine eye scarabs
  • rings
  • bronze spoons
  • many coloured seeds of different shapes and sizes
  • two sets of Roman and Islamic bronze coins
  • glass bottles

Khalifa said that these objects were not registered with the ministry’s antiquities list, which means that they were stolen from illicit digging in archaeological sites.

Dear Readers:  In keeping with the SLOBs tradition of music on the weekend, I have gone though my massive world music collection and uncovered Rasha’s “Azara Al Hay” (Girls of the Quarter).

When possible, I like to offer a translation:

The songs sounds a lot more joyful in its original language. B-Daddy has something from the 1970’s — Hold Your Head Up. It’s to celebrate the great week independent conservatives had, as described by Beers with Demo.
