Dear Readers: It will be my pleasure to be the guest on Canto Talk this week on Thursday, July 13, 10 am Pacific Time, noon Central Time, and 1 pm Eastern (click here during show times, or after for an archived podcast.
The topics: The anti-Trump media feeding frenzy and fashion, fashion, fashion.
The news cycle has rarely been busier since President Donald Trump took office. Silvio Canto, Jr., and I will be chatting about the latest media feeding frenzy: Donald Trump, Jr.’s meeting with the “Russian.” Professor William Jacobson has some brilliant analysis, which will be one aspect we will cover.
The emails show no actual evidence of “collusion” or illegality. There is nothing indicating the information to be offered was stolen or otherwise improperly obtained, or that other than being willing to listen, the Trump campaign was involved in how the information was obtained. To the contrary, the promised information was “official records and information.”
This also took place prior to the hack of the DNC being publicly known, so there was no reason to suspect that this was hacked information. Notice how the narrative has changed from the Trump campaign colluding with the Russians to “hack the election” to the Trump campaign being willing to have a meeting with someone who may have damaging oppo research.
And of course, there was no there there. There’s no indication any information actually existed.
Trump Jr. displayed incredible amateurishness in how this was handled. There isn’t any doubt that the Clinton campaign, if offered “official records and information” showing improper Trump dealings with the Russians would have taken the meeting. But her campaign would have been savvy enough to do it through surrogates and allies, and to provide key players with deniability and distance. We know this because in January 2017 Politico reported that the Ukrainian government helped Hillary with opposition research on Trump, but she did it though “allies.”
Trump Jr., by contrast, took the bait, and brought others from the inner circle into it. In so doing, he provided seeming confirmation for a preexisting narrative. Even if the actual emails don’t show it.
We will also discuss Melania Trump, who has become the First Lady of Fashion:
This dress is my favorite so far:

Melania Trump accompanied her husband to Poland and onto the G20 summit in Hamburg last week. Her final look of the visit was an opulent leaf-patterned dress by Jil Sander, which was founded by the eponymous German-born designer creating a suitably diplomatic bod to the host country.
She added a pop of colour to the look with a a bright red Bottega Veneta coat and co-ordinating waist-cinching belt.
The look continued the First Lady’s swerve away from severe tailoring; for a concert the evening before she had opted for a 20s-silhouette with a flapper-influenced frock by American designer, Michael Kors.
Melania Trump’s style has undergone a sophisticated reinvention since her husband ran for President, evolving from the high-octane glamour she preferred before becoming a political wife into an elegant and often strict silhouette, mixing American designers with her old favourites such as Valentino and Dolce and Gabbana.
She is so stylish that the attire she dons sells out shortly after each public appearance.
When Melania stepped out in Warsaw to echo her husband’s nationalistic message, she was in for a whirl-wind, as the scuba-knit Delpozo dress she donned appeared to overshadow the famous world leaders in Poland that day.
The sleeveless decoupage midi dress was available at luxury retailers Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman at the time Melania wore the pop-art-like dress, for upwards of roughly $3,000. Delpozo is considered one of the most famous Spanish design houses in the world, alongside luxury brand Loewe.
