BONUS: CALIFORNIA TEA PARTY VOTING RECOMMENDATIONS
Dear Readers: I am thrilled that California Tea Party Group‘s Dawn Wildman will be able to join Silvio and me for a Canto Talk show reviewing the June 7th California Primary results. Please click HERE for the show (live on Thursday, June 9 at 7pm PST/9 pm CT/10 pm EST or for podcast afterward).
During the Primary Beer Caucus the SLOBs (San Diego Local Order of Bloggers) held this weekend, we decided that if we were going to offer a “California Tea Party Voter’s Guide – 2016 Primary edition”, that we really needed was 2:
- CONSERVATIVE: For Californians who continue to remain optimistic that our fellow citizens will someday vote in support of smaller government and fiscal restraint.
- STRATEGIC: For those of us who simply want the results that set us up for General Election success, given the current conditions in the state.
A big thanks to W.C. Varones for the two-option idea!
So, with this concept in mind, here are some of our recommendations:
PRESIDENTIAL RACE:
- CONSERVATIVE: With Trump substantially ahead in the polls, either get on the Trump Train or vote or conscience.
- STRATEGIC: For those registered as Democrats or No Party Preference – #FeelTheBern.
SENATE RACE:
- CONSERVATIVE: Dawn strongly recommends Tom Del Beccaro for US Senate.
- STRATEGIC: Given that there is a snowball’s chance in hell California will place a Republican in the “Boxer Seat”, let’s give Bay Area politico Kamala Harris a real run for her money in November and pull the lever for Loretta Sanchez. Harris has been busy with Washington DC insider glitterati to organize an attack on our First Amendment rights. Sanchez is a Southern California woman who worked her way up through grassroots efforts and may pay more attention to her constituents in this region…as opposed to the Bay Area representatives who don’t even bother.
JUDGES: This site is priceless for helping select a good one: JUDGE VOTER GUIDE.
PROPOSITION 50: Proposition 50 is a constitutional amendment giving the California Legislature the authority to suspend members without pay on a two-thirds vote. Currently legislators can only vote to suspend with pay.
- CONSERVATIVE: Dawn says “hell no”, as the measure is poorly worded and may allow the legislature to run amok.
- STRATEGIC: The LA Times says “hell no”, which compels me to give this a big thumbs-up.
CONGRESS:
The race we would like to feature is California-53, where Jim Ash is running an inspiring grassroots campaign for Susan Davis’ seat. We would like to see Ash clear this hurdle and go on to November.
PREDICTIONS:June 7th will be an evening of comedy and chaos. The only predictions I am making are that I will not be sober at the end of the night, and that our June 9th Canto Talk show will be great.
