Dear Readers: As most of you know, Captain Capitalism is one of the heroes of the Shrine of Flaming Capitalism. The Goddess was pleased to receive anautographed copy of his book, “Enjoy the Decline” for her library. Now, I would like to share a few thoughts with you!
Aaron Clarey, finance expert extraordinaire and overall Renaissance man, says the book is especially dark. His focus is taking a look at the cultural and economic decline of the United States and what people can do, at the individual level, to deal with the anticipated realities and still enjoy life.
However, his wit and charm keep it lively and substantially lighter that advertised. Here is Aaron’s take on America, which I thought was moving:
And his focus on friendship was heart-warming:
I am a firm believer that happiness is the best revenge. Therefore, the Goddess of Capitalism approves the following conclusion:
Now, I must note that the bulk of the advice seems best suited for young men who are have no families. As I am not terribly young, am obviously female, and have a husband and son, much of it will not work for me. However, as noted in the selected paragraphs, Aaron slips in perspectives that are essentially universal.
Also, Aaron lists good resources for researching survival techniques and for relocating to another country, which may be useful. There are some great suggestions for asset protection in case the government decides to confiscate your wealth. Pre-planning for emergencies and guarding the nest-egg are two ideas the Goddess of Capitalism endorses.
And while the advice may seem “nihilistic” (e.g., I really am not supportive of the “Smith and Wesson” solution), I agree with Aaron that putting the emphasis on quality people instead of quality things is the best way to go.
