Dear Readers: While I usually strive to put some humor into my posts, as it helps sustain our emotional balance during these turbulent times, I find little to joke about today. President Obama, in an exceedingly cynical and politically-motivated move, has forgotten the basic tenets of the US Constitution and legislated by executive order.
Rule of Law, or Not?
The destruction of our system of checks and balances and separation of power (as evidenced by Obama’s Friday evening DREAM Act executive order overriding Congress) is a far more pressing and dangerous issue than his blatant electioneering attempt at pseudo amnesty. It is perilous for America that our chief executive would do something like this to garner votes for his floundering reelection.
The reasons for this detestable act are legion.
- It detracts from the complete failure of Obama’s retooled economic message from Thursday, which was 54 minutes of pure failure on display. Fellow SLOBWord Warrior was one of the few people I know patient enough to have listened to the entire speech. His thoughts are HERE; the money quote: Using the President’s own analogy: he walked into a restaurant, and was left with the other guy’s tab; then proceeded to shout out: “Drinks and dinner for EVERYONE!!” If Bush went on a spending binge his last two years (again, compliments of a Democrat-controlled Congress), Obama presided in his first two years over a virtual spending bacchanal!
- This executive order is nothing more than a despicable way to add more voters to the voter rolls. Interestingly, Obama’s “Dream Act” is directed to “children under 30”, a demographic that he thinks belongs to him for the November election. This is despite the fact none of these “dreamers” is legally eligible to vote. Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina publicly said that Team Obama intended to “expand the electorate”. As an American citizen, I am angered that my vote is going to be dilutes and rendered meaningless because of Obama’s order. As Congressman Allen West noted, this is nothing more than a way to arrange voter fraud.
- Popular Republican Senator Marco Rubio was working on a revised version of the “Dream Act”, which was slowly garnering bipartisan support. Many view Rubio as a sensible choice for Romney’s Vice Presidential pick. The White House was working against Rubio this spring — can’t have those pesky Republicans passing legislation appealing to the country’s Hispanic voters.
My favorite politician, Jan Brewer, summed it up best: OUTRAGEOUS
Gov. Jan Brewer described the new policy as “backdoor amnesty” and criticized Obama for making what she said was a preemptive strike against the anticipated court ruling.
“The crux of SB 1070 is documentation. (The president is) going to give documentation to nearly 1 million people who have arrived in the country illegally,” she said. “The timing is unbelievable.”
I had planned to focus on Europe’s deteriorating fiscal and situation today (see SLOB KT Cat for essential reading on this subject). However, with a sweep of his pen, Obama has just added 800,000 to the work force as well — and don’t BS me that they only get a “2-year” work pass. These passes can be re-applied for indefinitely, rather like our diver’s licenses are “temporary”. While Americans are struggling for work in a very difficult economic climate, Obama has just added more competition for jobs. No wonder the sole reporter brave enough to voice this concern was chased down.

It has become apparent in the last few weeks that Team Romney’s campaign was gaining traction, and the polls for the General Election were tightening. Tammy Bruce makes the point that, in part, Obama’s motive includes a desire for punishing us because we are rejecting him. For example, non-union automotive workers had the pensions summarily reduced by large amounts, while union elites remain protected (via Beers with Demo). Interestingly, B-daddy notes Obama’s order includes a potential mechanism for deporting “dreamers”: This, I assume, will be used if these “dreamers” don’t vote in Obama.
All of this is:
