Dear Readers: As I haven’t done so recently, I thought I would do an Egypt update. Here is today’s entry: Obama Regime Flips Congress The Bird, Will Resume $1.5 Billion In Military Aid For Muslim Brotherhood-Run Egypt.
The Obama administration intends to resume funding for Egypt’s military, despite congressional restrictions and objections from human rights and democracy advocates.
For months, the money for Egypt — more than $1.5 billion, with the bulk earmarked for the military — has been withheld amid that country’s crackdown on pro-democracy groups, including several U.S.-based organizations with close ties to political parties in Washington.
A law passed by Congress in December forbids funding unless the State Department certifies that Egypt is making progress on basic freedoms and human rights.
Is Congress going to do anything about this blatant power-grab? Is any member going to take action against this dictatorial tactic? Frankly, I have been utterly astonished at the degree to which both the Senate and the House have rolled over to accommodate the Once.
Also, what are the chances the above was not part of the deal that freed American student hostages recently? That, my readers, is as sensible as Caligula’s foreign policy “War on Neptune”.!!!
It rather reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite TV series of all times, Masterpiece Theater’s “I, Claudius”.
It’s true again I have little experience of government. But then, have you more? I at least have lived with the imperial family who has ruled this empire ever since you so spinelessly handed it over to us. I’ve observed it working more closely than any of you. Is your experience better than that?
The only things our American Caligula has failed to do:
- Marry his sister.
- Kill rich Senators for money (may be an option, given the poor fundraising).
- Appoint a horse to the Senate.

Of course, Obama might have done all these things…but with the White House making news outlets 404 stories, the reports may not be available. However, it seems Obama has Caligula’s spending patterns down perfectly. And, like Caligula, Obama tolerates no dissent.
For the purposes of this discussion, a search of the terms “Obama” and “Caligula” produced this fairly entertaining video review, for those you interested in history:
Over at Legal Insurrection, Professor Jacobson is hosting a debate on whether Romney is a Galba or a Vespasian.
Out in the far left Provinces, there is continued financial chaos, as detailed in CalWhine: 99% of pension funds outperform CalPERS — but count on big bonuses nonetheless!
Interestingly, there was a wealth of other related posts and imagery comparing Obama to Caligula. If you like such things, it is worth a look! And, since many conservative and independent pundits are history geeks, I offer a news item a bit more uplifting and related to ancient Egypt:
A deep burial well was found during a routine cleaning carried out by a Swiss archaeological mission on the path leading to King Tuthmosis III’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The well leads to a burial chamber filled with a treasured collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts.
Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of State for Antiquities, said that further inside the chamber, excavators stumbled upon a wooden sarcophagus painted black and decorated with hieroglyphic texts, and a wooden stelae engraved with the names and different titles of the deceased.
Early studies carried out by the Swiss team revealed that the tomb dates back to the 22nd Dynasty (945-712 BC) and it belongs to the daughter of Amun Re, lecture priest in Karnak temples and also the singer of the God Amun Re.
Can’t argue with your comparison, but this gave me pause:
Reagan:Augustus
Bush I:Tiberius
Clinton:Caligula
Bush II:Claudius
Obama:Nero
I do hope Romney is more Vespasian than Galba!
[…] will admit that Obama has a certain celebrity complex, like Emperor Nero or Caligula. And Israel was a pain in Rome’s posterior, like it seems to be for Obama. But, I digress […]
