Dear Friends: I have some HOT updates. Firstly, SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition has a NEW BRANDING and a NEW ATTITUDE. Sarah has updated our website and logo:
Please check out our site for news and information pertinent to the Tea Party in this region that isn’t a tool for the Republicans or other entrenched, elite special interests. SOCAL TAX REVOLT COALITION – SAN DIEGO TEA PARTY PATRIOTS.
Which brings be to the second point of today: I have been informed that one of the area’s activists has condemned SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition because it is “tainted” by the presence of an “undercover“……….
That Democrat, of course, would be yours truly. There is only one response to this:
A triple face palm: Sarah and I would be joined by the third co-founder of the Tea Party in this area — Dawn Wildman.
SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition — SAN DIEGO TEA PARTY PATRIOTS has been active in focusing on promoting fiscal responsibility, limited government, and Constitutional issues at the state, local and federal level since the first Tea Party event in 2009 — and the last time I checked, none of those issues were the strict dominion of the Republicans. In fact, a good portion of the Libertarians in our group will delineate exactly how, why and when the elite GOP establishment types have fallen down on the job. That is why were are no longer hoping for change, but making it for ourselves.
We are proud to have 40% of our membership in parties and affiliates other than GOP. All of us are focused on sensible economic solutions, as a sound economy is the best defense for our country and ensure freedom for ourselves and our children.
Plus, I will point out something recognized by citizens around this country: CALIFORNIA IS A ONE PARTY STATE, RUN BY DEMOCRATS. I will point out that as a free-market loving Catholic Democrat, I am better poised to affect change in this state than party elites — who seem to be working hand-in-hand with the Sacramento establishment or rolling over to ensure their power (albeit limited) is maintained.
A Tea Party Democrat can be extremely useful in ways that a Tea Party Republican cannot. See how effectively we can shoot down a favorite elite meme: The Tea Party is merely a tool of the GOP!
I talk to Democrats every day, who run businesses and need to trim their budgets. It is amazing how much I have been able to sway them, especially in terms of thinking about public employee unions. In fact, one reports says that 13% of Tea Party members are Democrats. These include many of the active members of HillBuzz, who are directly responsible for Scott Brown’s election (for good or ill).
However, it seems not every Tea Party group has such an open membership policy. That will be good know in the future, as it spares me the effort of promoting their works — as such works obviously will not be directed toward the good of all citizens.
Which brings be to my third and final point: It has come to my attention that some groups involved heavily with the establishment Republicans who have contributed to the gross mess in Sacramento and Washington DC are attempting to brand themselves as the area’s “Tea Party Patriots”. I hear that Grover Norquist, Americans for Prosperity , as well as the usual suspects seem to have developed an intense interest our area’s citizen groups.
There is so much at stake, and this is how you choose to spend your time?

Shane also located this chestnut, about High Tech High dis-inviting Barak Obama from the commencement speech because the students analyzed the “birth certificate” and concluded it was forged (like our Sarah, they were initially attempting to confirm authenticity). A snippet:
“You don’t really have to look further than the child’s name,” says Bhangoo. “The way the ‘r’ in ‘Barack’ differs in all sorts of ways from the rest of the letters, the way the green background fades away around certain parts of ‘Hussein’ and ‘Obama.’ It’s a Photoshop job, and not even a particularly careful one. We did a little followup work and found a death certificate for a Herbert Harrison O’Brien from the same hospital, dated August 5, 1961. The date of birth on that death certificate is given as August 4, same as little Barack Hussein Obama. But the funny thing is, there’s no corresponding birth certificate for baby Herbert. Where did it go? And why doesn’t Obama’s mother sign his birth certificate until August 7, three days after her son is born? By then, we were too depressed to dig any deeper.”

The SLOBs are a diverse group of Californians, who all love their country (though we have “relationship issues” with the state). I think it is a good model for the region’s Tea Party groups — stay honest about who you are, contribute the talents you have, and celebrate the successes of others (instead of trying to tear them down).
And focus your attention on the real issues that impact Americans. It would be a nice change.
