Dear Friends: A short post to hit some media highlights that really got to me today. The title of today’s piece comes from Rush Limbaugh, whose recent monologues have been more passionate than usual. I think it sums up the current view of most of the citizens — activist or otherwise — who I talk to regularly. One of my favorite tea party heroes, Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots, will be on Glenn Beck today to discuss the current status of the Tea Party Movement. While I don’t regularly watch Glenn Beck, I will tonight. It should be good.
The San Diego Union Tribune’s political cartoonist, Steve Breen, as always been a mixed bag for me. However, when he hits it out of the ball-park, it is awesome.
I have to say one of my favorite reads is Beers with Demos, as he usually does in 2-3 paragraphs what I need a big, long post to accomplish. And he does so with such marvelous humor! He has a great piece on the war effort, featured in Breen’s cartoon: What are we fighting for? Mut’s Money Quote:
He said, “I’ve had people come up to me and say ‘I support the troops, I want you out of there.’ Really? What have you done to support the troops? What have you done other than complain? Have you petitioned the halls of Congress? Have you written your representative? Have you asked the president to increase our pay, increase our benefits? That’s supporting the troops. Saying you want the troops out of Afghanistan by talking to no one of influence is wasting your time, and you’re a complainer. And you’re not supporting the troops.
“Do something for us. Call your senator, talk to your senator. Talk to your representative. If you want us to stay here and continue to fight this war on terror, tell your senator, tell your representative. If you don’t want us to fight this war on terror, and want us back home, call your representative, call your senator. Write them a letter. Say, ‘I’m in your constituency, I want the soldiers gone.’ Vote.
That snippet reminds me of an exchange I had in a conservative forum, when someone was complaining about the direction of the country. I asked specifically what he was doing to change that direction BESIDES opine in an electronic forum. We need to channel the anger at “The Ruling Class” into something productive, otherwise we will become subjects.
Via Tammy Bruce, an excellent political cartoon from the always awesome Michael Ramirez:
A Tammy Bruce update — based on a podcast report, it seems she will be at the Sacramento “Recycle Government” Tea Party on September 12, coordinated by the Tea Party Patriots. She mentioned it in passing, so do not take this posting in my humble blog as an official announcement that she has been totally, completely confirmed. Additionally, there are going to be simultaneous events in Washington DC and St. Louis. I hope to be going, with a laptop I plan to buy in the next few weeks. My dream would be to live-blog one of these events. 🙂
Left Coast Rebel posted another piece in the Daily Caller: Hypothetical reasoning, the second amendment and the soda creek grizzly bear attack.
One of our favorite econo-pundits, W.C. Varones is battling Keynesians. Who says you can’t be angry while you are also being informative?
Finally, if THIS is what they mean my the most ethical and transparent congress effort, then the words “ethical” and transparent” don’t mean what they think they mean. Which brings me right back into the title of today’s post.
