UPDATE: He did it: Brown raises $500,000 in single day, now pushing for $750,000. I am sure my $25 put him over the top! 🙂
UPDATE II (11/15): Apparently, my historical references below have touched the hearts of some Massachusetts citizens (great video about the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World”).! Who knew my humble plea would be heard?
An open letter to the voters of Massachusetts.
Dear Fellow Americans:
There have been many great patriots from your beautiful state, Massachusetts. Paul Revere, who made the famous midnight ride on April 18, 1775 to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the British approach, is a wonderful example. My ancestor, Israel Putnam, was a Continental Army soldier born in the town of Salem and is another hero who helped in free America from tyrannical British rule. Your state has been home to many great patriots.
I am not saying Scott Brown is the Messiah. I am not saying Republicans have all the right answers (I am a Democrat who is well aware of the many flaws in the local GOP leadership style). I am saying that the state and national Democratic Party have both shown that THEIR version of PUBLIC SERVICE is that YOU service THEM. For a truly free America, you must show them exactly WHO is the boss!
Your freedom, as well as mine, is tied into the election of Scott Brown for the US Senate.
Consider these few facts:
* The Democratic Party blatantly said it will not seat Scott Brown, should he win, in time to be the 41st vote against the thuggishly-passed Healthcare Reform Measures (and which most of your fellow citizens DO NOT WANT). Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion blog, which has been on the front lines of this battle, reports:
People are furious at the attempt to delay a certification if Brown wins. That point hits home with a lot of the people we have called.
* I read in the comments section of one of the blogs about this race that the Unions will ensure the members vote “the right way” — that is “Democratic”. It seems the Massacusetts union leadership thinks that their membership must be steered to vote properly. My dear Massachusetts friends, can your pride and Common Sense really permit you to pull the lever for Coakley knowing about this attitude? We in California are struggling to free ourselves from the chains of union thugocracy — please use this vote to push back on union political domination in your part of this great nation.
* Concern trolls, probably paid for by “Porkulus Money“, are attempting to undermine the genuine grassroots enthusiasm that has developed. It is gotten so bad that HillBuzz has had to prepare a full description of their tactics (well worth reading if you are a regular blog reader). Such tawdry tactics cannot be rewarded by either giving up on Brown or voting for Coakley. A snippet from the HillBuzz Piece:
Concern Trolls use a lot of “I Statements”, the kind bad therapists tell sociopaths to use more of so that they trick parole boards into releasing them. “I think”, “I feel”, “I believe”, etc. They have a three-pronged, four or five sentence max, little system:
(A) Establish some positive connection to whatever the thread is about, but using “I Statements” to say things like: “I like Scott Brown”, “I didn’t like Sarah Palin at first but”, “I’ve been so proud of Hillary Clinton”, etc. The example about Palin is good because one of the other things they try to do is establish some sort of false-honesty by seemingly admitting something to the board, so that they generate a fake credibility, among other oxymorons. “I didn’t like her at first, but, now I do, and I’ve thus established you can trust me because I shared that secret, now listen to me when I tell you to sit your butts home and let Democrats win. Otay? Buh-bye!”
(B) Tell everyone they all worked hard and note how impressed the troll is with all of you (“This is the best board ever!”), and then express “concern” that people are getting their hopes up too much and that people need to not waste their energy on the task at hand. “We’ve all worked hard, but now it is time to give up and do nothing so that Democrats can catchup and beat us”.
(C) Flat-out, using “I Statements”, tell everyone to just give up, but without making imperative statements that would come off as commands and piss people off. So, they don’t say, “You have to just stop and give up now so Democrats can win”. Instead, they say, “I think we’re all just really tired. We put up a good fight. But the Boston Globe poll says Coakley’s ahead by 15 points, and it is Massachusetts, so we should just all put our diapers on, sit in the corner, and fill them, all day, doing nothing productive, until someone can come and change us. That’s what I am going to do, and I have been the biggest supporter of our candidate ever. I love this board!”
Concern trolls are often, but not always, paid operatives who quite possibly work in little boutique PR and Public Strategies consulting firms in major cities. Chicago has DOZENS of these. We know — we’ve worked in these offices. Where do you think we learned everything we tell you?
Hillbuzz has writers who hail from the Chicago area. Their careers are directly being threatened because they are expressing their freely held opinions in a free country — and doing so in a witty and effective manner. My Massachusetts friends: When men in Illinois are willing to sacrifice their futures to take a strong stance, this shows you how important this matter is on a national level. Please, weigh the fact that your one vote will represent the voice of THOUSANDS on Jan. 19th.
TEA PARTY MUTUAL AID!
We need some help in California, as we attempt to repeal the state’s version of Cap-and-Trade (AB 32). AB 32, California Cap and Trade legislation is being challenged on Monday January 11, 2010 at 1:30 pm in Sacramento as it is presented to the Natural Resources Committee. Please fax, phone and email the below committee members and tell them to vote YES on AB 118, the repeal of this most harmful economic legislation. Dan Logue the Assemblyman from Chico is leading this effort to get this repealed.
