Dear Friends: It seems as if Congressman Henry Waxman is going to bypass the House Subcommittee, where his tax-enhancing bill — The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 — is going to be pressed forward through a vote in both chambers quickly while we Americans are distracted with Memorial Day and early summer events.
You may want to use the link provided above or this one HERE for a good parsing of the bill. It is so bad that the Democrats hired a speed reader to avoid a public outcry about legislators not reading the bill. Sadly, according to a synopsis provided by Michelle Malkin, Waxman seemed confused about components of his own work. Mut’s Money Quote – hat-tip to Fire Andrea Mitchell): “I don’t know the details. I rely on the scientists.” was Henry Waxman’s reply when questioned about details about his Cap and Trade bill. I’m sure the “scientists” he relies are the ones with government grants dangled in front of their faces.
Perhaps he can take a clue from one of our local tax revolt patriots:
And I am one of the 31,000 earth scientists who signed the petition indicating the debate about man-caused global warming was NOT over – because we didn’t find the science based from government-motivated grant getters compelling.
The Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition is intending to make this bill one of our next targets, so it doesn’t get passed swiftly without a thorough vetting (e.g., the 2009 Budget Bill plus pork, TARP I and II). Stay tuned for further information on specific activities. In the meantime, you may wish to contact your current representatives and voice your concerns about this bill — which threatens to cost American families $1300/car and cost 150,000 American jobs.
Please use the contact information HERE if you need a place to start your phone/fax/email campaign (scroll down slightly for the US Representatives Links). You may wish to focus on the Democrats already uncomfortable with this bill.
In a nutshell, Frugal cafe Blog Zone has a nice summary:
“Nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. There are no benefits for the American people in the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill. Whenever defenders of the free market point out how much an energy tax will cost the economy, the enviro-left always tries to change the subject to “the cost of inaction.” But here is the dirty little secret about Waxman-Markey: it does nothing to prevent global warming/climate change whatever you want to call it. And that is before House Democrats gutted the bill.”
