Dear Readers: I wanted to take a moment to direct you to a wonderful piece on D-Day posted by The Liberator Today: Remembering D-Day. It is the inspiration for the title of today’s post, which is a summary of many of the citizen rallies held this weekend throughout the country, including downtown San Diego.
Charles Caesar went to the San Diego event (June 5 at 4 pm), and had the following report. “There were about 100 participants. Mainly, it was a fairly standard rally — we held signs and sang some songs. The best one was when everyone started singing America the Beautiful,” Charles said.
Charles noted that the lone media who attended, channel 5, seemed to focus on the debate between a pro SB-1070 friend and one against. He also said that one of the more interesting developments was when the proprietor of a bike-taxi told the crowd that his business was flooded by immigrants whose governments would pay for their bikes so they could make money in America’s Finest City (thereby making new bikes scarce for Americans as well as draining away customers from citizens).
In related news, the ladies of the Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition were quoted in the San Diego Union Tribune. Yours truly was actually asked to comment on the rally:
“So many people from (Mexico) ignore our rules and come on in,” said Leslie Eastman, a spokeswoman for that group, who said about 100 people attended. “I would like to see enforcement so we can have people here legally.”
And my fellow co-founder, Dawn Wildman, was asked to comment on Tea Party activity past this upcoming election:
“Our biggest problem right now has been that the Republican Party is trying to make us part of them,” added Dawn Wildman, a founder of the San Diego-based Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition. “We’re not all Republicans, and that notion is insulting to even those of us who are Republicans.”
Dawn, who was also at the downtown rally on the 5th, also noted a large Latino contingent came down from Chula Vista to support Arizona’s SB1070. “There was a lot of honking when cars passed by, in support of our event,” explained Dawn. She also prepared a report on a recent Tempe event that was attended by thousands: THE NATION STANDS WITH ARIZONA.
The simultaneous Phoenix Rising event had over 3000 participants, as noted by Gateway Pundit and ABC-15: Thousands Turn Out in Phoenix to Protest in Support of Arizona’s Immigration Law.
As if this wasn’t enough domestic-policy-based agitation to keep the state politicos on their toes, foreign policy rallies were in high gear as well. Gateway Pundit also reported 5,000 attendees at the “Stand with Israel” rally in Los Angeles this weekend: THOUSANDS Rally In Support of Israel at Los Angeles protest. Charles noted that many Tea Party participants feel that Israel is being unfairly treated by foreign policy bureaucrats and elite media types, and has written a letter offering to support these types of events in the future: LETTER TO THE ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE.
On June 6, there was a rally at the site of the World Trade Center to protest the construction of a mosque in close proximity to that site. While allegedly the building is suppose to be some sort of “Islamic Cultural Center”, given the fact it is going to be topped by a mosque is disrespectful to the memory of the thousands of souls who perished at the hands of Islamic zealots. As an extra bonus, the founder of this proposed “cultural center” funded the Gaza Flotilla that left several young Israeli defenders severely injured.
Looking at the Left has more details: Estimates as high as 10,00 have been reported for this crowd.
I want my fellow Americans to reflect on some simple arithmetic for a few moments: 100 plus 3000 plus 5000, plus 10,000. Nearly 20,000 of your fellow citizens took time from busy weekends to stand in support of issues and causes close to them. This IS change I can believe in. God Bless America.
